Department of BioTechnology

      The Department was established in the year 2006.There are 4 laboratories attached to the department - Molecular Biology & Genetics, Biochemistry, Agriculture Biotechnology (Tissue Culture) and Bioinformatics. The department is mainly focused on upgrading Tissue Culture facility and bioinformatics lab and is planning to standardize the protocols for establishing the drosophila lab.

      Students are assigned Group Projects & these are carried out in the department utilizing the departmental facility & Department organized guest lectures on regular basis by eminent scientists like C. Vasant Kumar Chary, Adjunct Professor Temple University, Philadelphia USA; G.D Heda – Mississippi, University of Women , Dr.R.S.Prakasam Deputy Director IICT, Hyd; K.B.R.S. Visarada, Principle Scientist, Directorate of Sorghum Research (DSR); Dr. Ulaganathan, Associate Professor, CPMB, Dr. Sastry Scientist in charge CIMAP –Boduppal; Prof. Shashidhar Rao, Head- Dept of Biochemistry, OU ; Prof.Vijay Deshpande, Former Head , Dept of Biochemistry, Osmania University, Shena Gogte- HOD Microbiology , ST.ANNS College,Dr.S.Ram Gopal – Biocon Academy, Dr.Manika Pal Bhadra – IICT , Dr.Noor Mohammad CPMB ,Dr Santhosh Padhi - Dept of Biochemistry,HCU, Mrs. Kavitha Varka , Head , Dept of Biochemistry, Keshvav Memorial College.

      Students carry out the Projects at prominent Laboratories like ICRISAT, CCMB, HCU, CDFD, IICT, NIN, Owaisi Hospital, Apollo Hospital, Indian Immunologicals, etc. Thrust areas in the Department are Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics, and Molecular Biology. Environmental Biotechnology , Advances in Plant Biotechnology ,Protein Engineering is offered as a specialized paper. The Department has advanced Equipments like UV- Visible Spectrophotometer, PCR, Incubators, Electrophoretic units, Cooling Centrifuge, -40oC Freezer, Shaking Incubator, Autoclaves, Colorimeters, PH Meters, Light and Research Microscopes, Slide Viewer, Double Distillation Unit, Gel Doc Electronic Balance and Computers for Bioinformatics Lab.Faculty has attended various National and International Conferences and workshops.

      One of our student, T.Suma (2006-2008) topped Osmania University exams and was awarded a Gold Medal. Tuba Marjan (2015-2017) topped Osmania University exams .Faculty published several Research Papers in International and National Journals. G.D Heda – Mississippi, University of Women, is establishing a Protein Biochemisrty Laboratory. The department organises seminars and workshops on regular basis ,R Software and its application in Biology ,Entrepreneurship Development in collaboration with MBA department, Clinical Data Management and SAS in collaboration with Clinnova, Bioinformatics and Bioinformatics Tools, Molecular Techniques in Plants, Advanced Molecular Techniques in collaboration with Agri biotech organization, Basic Microbial Techniques as applied to Research.Dr.K.Janardhan is recognized as research supervisor by Osmania university under him one student was awarded Ph.D. Dr.K.Janardhan has published a book on Fundamentals of Biostatistics , IK Publishers. Students are Pursuing Ph.Ds , Post Docs and are placed in various reputed Institutes, like BITS –Pilani, NIMHANS, BIOCON etc.
